'Prepare to be immersed in the heat and vibrancy of Florida's natural world, full of such sensual detail that to read it is to breathe it in.' - Jo Shapcott
[review of Greyhound Night Service]

Welcome and thank you for visiting. I've been keeping this blog since 2010 as a place to write about everything related to the process of being a writer and academic, book reviews, publishing, research, the challenges of finding free time, conferences and festivals, family and hobbies, and all things in between.

More recently, the blog has been focused on current writing projects including two writing residencies at the Hambidge Center for Arts and Sciences in the mountains of northern Georgia, USA, where I was a solo Writer-in-Residence in Spring 2018 and a collaborative Resident in Summer 2019.

I am a Lecturer in English Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Surrey, and the festival director for Surrey New Writers Festival.

My poetry can be found in the collection, Stay Bones, (Pindrop Press, 2020), and a pamphlet, Greyhound Night Service (Maquette Press, 2018). For a list of other poetry, please see the headed sections titled Poetry or Events.

Other blog posts / loves of mine include: walking and investigating nature (especially botany), learning French, slow travel (I love trains!), series, serials and anything sequential (tv, poetry, novels), all elements of Narrative Studies, mah jong, minimalist living, and multi-media visual art.

Please subscribe to this blog for updates on new posts.

Hope you enjoy!
